While you're reading this book keep two things in mind: paper towns and paper people. Quentin and Margo used to be close but they grew up and grew apart. Margo has always been like a free spirit, she does what she wants whenever she want to. So in natural Margo fashion, she just shows up at Q's house unannounced in the middle of the night. She wants to go on an adventure at 1 in the morning and for some reason Q agrees. They go around Orlando in his mom's minivan and do the craziest and most hilarious things. The next day, Margo is gone. She is off somewhere trying to get away from what she considers a "paper town" and its "paper people" The rest of the book is the journey to find Margo. For Q it become more than a journey to find Margo, it became a journey to understand her and for Q to learn more about himself and what he wanted to his life to be. My Experience Reading the BookThe book, I feel is like a mystery book. But it's not a mystery to find something, it's journey to find out who Margo really is and who Q really is. I personally loved the book. I couldn't stop reading, I was actually reading in the middle of class (#rebel) . I was so intrigued with the story, there a new twist or new clue or someone finds out something new about themselves. You can really connect with the characters and you learn life lessons without even realizing it. Summary: Miles Halter leaves his home in Florida hoping to find what Francois Rebelais called the " Great Perhaps ". He is fascinated by famous last words and is tired of living the same boring life in Florida. He chooses to move to a boarding school in Alabama hoping to find his " Great Perhaps " there. Instead he finds more than what he could have ever imagined. He found friends, he discovered a life of adventure and risk, and he starts to fall in love with Alaska Young. As Alaska and Pudge get to know each other Alaska informs him of Simon Bolivar's last words " Damn it. How will I ever get out of this labyrinth. Miles then because curious and wants to know what the labyrinth is. Pudge, Alaska and the others have many adventures and plan many pranks but throughout the whole book there's one question that is always in the back of everyone's mind, " What happens after you die?". My Experience Reading the Book:
This novel talks about many of the struggles a teen might face in high school; depression, loneliness, low self esteem, etc. It's hilarious but it touches on serious topics. It really makes you value things in life, especially life itself. There's many things I learnt from reading this book but the most important thing is that it always gets better. It doesn't matter how hopeless every seems, how tired you are, or how much you just want the pain to disappear, things will get better. A perfect way to describe one of the main messages of the book is : " Be strong because things will get better. It may be stormy now but it never rains forever" |
